Learning and Wellbeing Centre

The LWBC is the entry point to all Gindaja’s programs and services.

The Learning and Wellbeing Centre (LWBC) is the face of Gindaja within the community.  It delivers Gindaja’s day programs, non-residential case management, community development and engagement initiatives, health promotion activities, AOD education and after/continuing care services.  The LWBC is located in the central township of Yarrabah and also acts as the first point of contact for all referrals into Gindaja’s Residential Recovery Centre.

LWBC staff undertake individual, strengths-based education, treatment, recovery and healing services to the local people of Yarrabah. Group programs are also available and include: The Family Wellbeing Empowerment Program, Gindaja’s own ‘Don’t Ger Me Wild’ Anger Management Program, Relapse Prevention, AOD Information and Education and the Gindaja Men’s Warrior Program.

The LWBC is located in the central township of Yarrabah and also acts as the first point of contact for all referrals into Gindaja’s Residential Recovery Centre

AOD Support

The LWBC has 2 AOD Client Support Officers who provide case managed assistance and support to individuals and families in the Yarrabah community who are seeking help for problematic alcohol and/or drug use.  Case Management provides social and emotional welling being and practical support as well as helping to coordinate other services that are assisting a client in their recovery journey.

Group Day Programs

Group programs such as Gindaja’s own ‘Don’t Get Me Wild’ anger management program and the Family Wellbeing Empowerment Program, are delivered by the LWBC staff and are open to anyone in the community who would like to participate.  Other group programs include our ‘Connecting the Dots’ (understanding addiction) program, relapse prevention and Gindaja’s Men’s ‘Warrior’ program.

Men’s ‘Warrior’ Support Program

Gindaja’s men’s ‘Warrior’ program offers friendly, culturally safe support for Yarrabah men who want to improve and strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing.  The program offers a 12-week intensive case management support service for men who are experiencing AOD/Family Violence issues in their lives as well as group programs for men wanting to come together to support each other.

Information and Referral

LWBC staff can provide general information and referral for individuals and families to appropriate support services including other AOD and health services locally, Cairns-based or regional services.

Intake and Assessment

The LWBC is the entry point to all Gindaja’s programs and services.  Referrals are accepted from any individual or organisation including: health services, GP’s, criminal justice services, other alcohol and drug services, mental health, disability, child safety, homelessness and family violence services, among others.  Individuals can self-refer and families and friends may also refer a friend or family member to Gindaja or come to the LWBC for support, advice and guidance.

The LWBC staff provide comprehensive assessment of individual/family needs, aspirations and personal goals allowing clients to move between programs and services as their needs change.

Health Education and Promotion

The LWBC staff also provide community development & educational activities out in the Yarrabah community to encourage alcohol & drug free lifestyle choices & promote Gindaja’s holistic service responses across the continuum of care.

After and Continuing Care

Our aftercare program provides comprehensive & on-going support for those who are exiting Gindaja’s treatment programs to ensure the recovery journey continues out in the community
