What we do

Gindaja is an Aboriginal community-controlled Alcohol and Other Drug service, located in the Far North Queensland Aboriginal Shire of Yarrabah, 60kms by road from Cairns.

The organisation is governed by a Board of Directors drawn from the local Yarrabah community and includes both respected elders and youth leaders.  

Gindaja operates a 17 bed Residential Recovery Centre as well as a Learning and Wellbeing Centre that offer a range of rehabilitation services including primary prevention, health promotion, harm reduction, case-management and social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) for men, women and families.  

Gindaja is fully accredited through ISO (Institute of Healthy Communities Australia) as well as the Human Services Quality Framework (HSQF) from the Department of Communities. Gindaja have in place a range of robust Quality Improvement Systems including: Risk Management, Clinical Governance, Document Management and Control, Legislative Compliance, Organisational Governance and Management, Human Resources Management and Data Collection Management.

To provide culturally appropriate, specialised AOD care and support services in the areas of Education, Treatment, Recovery and Healing to people with alcohol and substance dependencies in Yarrabah and beyond.
